CARL Heeley wants to see the same determination that earned his Worcester City troops victory against Dover when they visit Bromley on Saturday (3pm).
It is the second lengthy away trip in four days for the St George’s Lane outfit but morale is high after the 2-0 success against the Whites on Tuesday night, which was widely accepted as the team’s best result of the season.
Heeley’s charges battled against the odds with a depleted squad, which included starts for ex-Lane favourite Mark Owen and Stourport winger Jamie Price, to record their second away win in Blue Square South this season.
It was a complete contrast to the mediocre performance in slumping to a 1-0 home defeat to Hampton and Richmond last Saturday and one that has strengthened their position in the quest for survival.
They are now seven points better off than third-from-bottom Lewes, who have two games in hand, and are looking to climb further away from the relegation zone.
The trip to Hayes Lane also represents the chance to register back-to-back league wins for the first time this season, a feat that eluded City last weekend having set themselves up with victory over Maidenhead United.
But manager Heeley was delighted with the effort at Dover and is expecting more of the same against 11th-placed Bromley.
“To go to Dover and win gives us a lot of confidence and we can visit Bromley full of hope and optimism that we can pick up more points,” he said.
“I don’t think Dover took us lightly. We had more spirit and commitment than them and wanted to win more.
“If we can show those same qualities on Saturday then Bromley are going to have a tough afternoon.
“If we win, it’s another game gone and the pressure will be on the teams around us.
“We have to concentrate on ourselves and let the other results take care of themselves.”
Rob Elvins, who scored the second goal in mid-week, is set to continue in the centre of defence alongside Wayne Daniel in his last game before serving a four-match ban.
Captain Tom Kemp is ruled out with a shoulder injury, while fellow defender Mark Clyde (knee) is not quite ready to return.
Heeley added: “If we were to play Mark, it would probably be a week too early.
“I have Rob this week but not next so it makes sense to give Mark some extra time.”
Forward Alfie Carter is back after mid-week work commitments but wide player Tom Beahon is set to be unavailable for the same reason and midfielder Jack Durrant’s loan from Cheltenham Town has expired.
