CARL Heeley is looking to mark his official appointment as Worcester City manager by extending Jamie Price’s stay at the club.

Heeley has been given the job on a permanent basis, which will see him in charge next season, after initially taking over from Richard Dryden in a caretaker role.

Stourport Swifts winger Price, deemed surplus to re-quirements at St George’s Lane last summer, answered a last-minute SOS to play at Dover Athletic on Tuesday in the absence of Tom Beahon.

He produced a battling display at left-back in the 2-0 victory and talks have been held with Swifts manager Neil Hunt over prolonging the agreement ahead of tomorrow’s Blue Square South clash at Bromley (3pm).

The Welshman, due to travel with Swifts for their Zam-aretto League Division One Midlands match at Biggles-wade Town last night, can be registered with both teams because they don’t play in the same league.

Beahon, originally lined up to replace the suspended Shabir Khan in defence, was unavailable due to work commitments and could be for the foreseeable future.

“It’s still up in the air with Jamie but I have had a very constructive chat with Neil Hunt and initially he was quite supportive. There’s a strong possibility that it will happen,” said caretaker boss Carl Heeley.

He added: “It’s a difficult with Tom because he’s started a new job and one of his working days is a Sat-urday. But we are not in a position to pay people en-ough to act as a full-time income so he has to get enough money to live. That’s his priority and I understand that.”

Heeley, however, is keeping his options open and may draft in two more players from the Glenn Hoddle Aca-demy in Spain, from where he recruited Beahon, before tomorrow’s trip to Kent.

The City boss is determined to keep the club up and, with four league wins, has already recorded the same number of wins as predecessor Richard Dryden this season.

He is continually scouring the market for players and missed out on centre-half Scott Brice after the Bristol-based player opted to join league rivals Dorchester following his departure from Weymouth.

Heeley said: “We have got eight games left and have got to mix and match until the end of the season.

“It’s an eight-game campaign and we need to get enough points to survive.”

He has ruled out club coach and former fans’ favourite striker Mark’s appearance making another cameo appearance following his first-half outing against Dover.
