Heeley angered by Solihull tactics

MANAGER Carl Heeley hit out at the spoiling tactics of Solihull Moors following a 1-0 defeat for Worcester City.

The City boss was angered by the visitors’ time-wasting ploys in the second-half, which included several lengthy stoppages for injuries, as they held on for victory at St George’s Lane.

Although not blaming the antics for the loss, Heeley felt the referee should have done more to stop it and added more time on at the end.

“How there were only five mintues added on when, in the inury-time, their player was on the floor for over three minutes was absolutely beyond me,” he said.

“I would have been disappointed if there had been eight or nine minutes because it was embarrassing.

“It stifled us but they’ve done their homework, they know we’re a fluent side and all credit to them for that. But we have a right to play 45 minutes of football and I think we probably played less than 10 minutes of that in the second-half because of the spoiling tactics.

“They slowed the game down, time-wasted and feigned injury but when you are looking for a strong official to deal with that we haven’t had one and that’s disappointing. But they defended well and we are slightly unfortunate.”

Ryan Beswick scored the decisive goal 12 minutes before half-time but Danny Glover also missed two gilt-edge chances, while keeper Jasbir Singh denied Matt Birley.

“I didn’t think we would draw a blank very often this season but we have and I their keeper pulled off a great save,” Heeley added.

“Against Hinckley we were saying we were lucky to win but I am not going to feel guilty for that because how we haven’t got anything against Solihull is beyond me.

“Certainly on the second-half performance, we warranted something.

“They played well in the first-half. I think we helped them at times by conceding poor free-kicks and silly corners unnecessarily and we allowed them to put us under pressure.

“On the whole, I thought we dealt with it very well. But we knew we had a lot more to give in the second-half and I thought we played a lot better and were very unfortunate not to get something out of the match.”

Full marks to Carl Staff and Players for a enjoyable start to season. Good to see team playing a passing game. I have to say Evans has made a big difference to defence during last two matches. I just do not see what Carl see's in Elvins. Clyde had to cover for him time and time again already this season. I like a lot of supporters think Elvins is a total waste of money, I was very surprised when he was retained. Carl if you want to free some money get rid of Elvins. Please give Evans a good run he reminds of Carl when George Rooney gave him a chance at the back when he joined Club and look how that turned out. Elvins is a liability and certainly not worth a place in squad.

Solihull`s time wasting began almost immediately after they scored and continued until the final whistle - the referee should have issued a few yellow cards but this particular official was more annoying than the opposition.
City had enough chances to get a draw and probably a win. One thing they don`t seem to do is attack the back post when a cross comes over - Cartwright put over a couple of beauties early on but both Danks and Glover seemed to head for the near post and the crosses were wasted.
Like Dandey I`m not convinced Elvins is a centre back (he seems to be the lowest marked defender every game he plays). We could do with another Kevin Tudor or Kenny Lawrence being unearthed from the lower leagues again.
But given City`s financies, Carl has put together a decent squad playing decent football and they seem to be enjoying being here - just a pity that the biggest crowd for a while couldn`t see a better result.(not to mention a better referee and a better atitude from the opposition)

Yes indeed - it`s a long time since an opposing team was frightened to come out and play.
