MANAGER Carl Heeley hit out at the spoiling tactics of Solihull Moors following a 1-0 defeat for Worcester City.
The City boss was angered by the visitors’ time-wasting ploys in the second-half, which included several lengthy stoppages for injuries, as they held on for victory at St George’s Lane.
Although not blaming the antics for the loss, Heeley felt the referee should have done more to stop it and added more time on at the end.
“How there were only five mintues added on when, in the inury-time, their player was on the floor for over three minutes was absolutely beyond me,” he said.
“I would have been disappointed if there had been eight or nine minutes because it was embarrassing.
“It stifled us but they’ve done their homework, they know we’re a fluent side and all credit to them for that. But we have a right to play 45 minutes of football and I think we probably played less than 10 minutes of that in the second-half because of the spoiling tactics.
“They slowed the game down, time-wasted and feigned injury but when you are looking for a strong official to deal with that we haven’t had one and that’s disappointing. But they defended well and we are slightly unfortunate.”
Ryan Beswick scored the decisive goal 12 minutes before half-time but Danny Glover also missed two gilt-edge chances, while keeper Jasbir Singh denied Matt Birley.
“I didn’t think we would draw a blank very often this season but we have and I their keeper pulled off a great save,” Heeley added.
“Against Hinckley we were saying we were lucky to win but I am not going to feel guilty for that because how we haven’t got anything against Solihull is beyond me.
“Certainly on the second-half performance, we warranted something.
“They played well in the first-half. I think we helped them at times by conceding poor free-kicks and silly corners unnecessarily and we allowed them to put us under pressure.
“On the whole, I thought we dealt with it very well. But we knew we had a lot more to give in the second-half and I thought we played a lot better and were very unfortunate not to get something out of the match.”
