Shabir to miss Nuneaton clash

WORCESTER City fear Shabir Khan faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with his knee injury.

The left-back sustained the problem at the end of the 3-2 victory against Hinckley United 10 days ago and has not featured since.

Manager Carl Heeley said there was no chance of the player being involved for Saturday’s visit of Nuneaton Town and was not optimistic of having Shabir back soon.

The City boss said: “I think Shabir will be out for a while because I have had knee problems myself and there’s a question mark over any damage he might have done but time will tell.

“I hope I am wrong but I am not optimistic.”

Heeley, though, is anticipating having teenage defender Tom Evans back for the Blue Square Bet North clash after he suffered a knee complaint against Solihull Moors.

Nevertheless, with Rob Elvins out with a broken foot, the Worcester manager is short on defensive options and could draft in cover — if he can find someone suitable.

He said: “I have been looking to bring someone in but I don’t feel that the right player is available.

“I have made lots of enquiries but, with the greatest of respect, I don’t want to take a young lad who’s only experienced academy football because they are not strong enough for this level.”

I think the loss of Elvins is a blessing in disguise. Young Tom Evans has filled in for Elvins and in my opinion is the better defender. His positioning is far superior and he times his tackle more accurately too. We are going to miss Shab but Jamie is doing a great job covering for him and was probably man of the match at Vauxhall.
I hope th board find the funds for Carl to cover the devensive problems, even if it is short term. With crowds closer to 800 than 600 maybe there could be a little available Andrew???? Pretty please :)
