THE focus at Worcester City has now switched to the crucial match against Lewes this weekend.
As much as we were disappointed with the defeat against Newport County on Monday, that’s in the past and we have to move on.
We still have to play Lewes twice this season and there’s a chance that those games will be a big factor in how our season shapes up as they are also battling relegation.
The team is going to travel down to the south coast on Friday so we can prepare the best we can for the match.
It’s such a long journey, we would have to leave at 8.30am on Saturday and players would also have to travel to get to the ground beforehand which is not ideal.
I looked at ways of getting the team down there and the club have been very supportive.
There’s no hiding from the fact it’s a massive match but it’s also just another game of football and we have to be more determined to win.
The bigger picture is we needed to pick more points up from the four home games over the last nine days but we only got three. All we can do now is keep on going.
We have got clear problems that I have got to try and sort out. Although the performance against Newport wasn’t too bad, we couldn’t deal with the ball into our box.
We are not a small side and were missing players but I still expected us to deal with things.
I am hopeful of changing it around in time for Saturday because I think I need to.
However, it’s very tough and I am restricted with what I can do but I am trying my best to sort the problem areas out.
I am looking to get a couple of players in because I feel we are short in some positions and I am working hard to do that and pulling in as many favours as I can.
One position is in goal because Jake Meredith’s confidence is shot and he’s having a terrible time.
I have said to him that he has to believe in his own ability and make good decisions. He’s got to get through this and come through a better keeper and a stronger person. But getting a keeper in is difficult because it’s the toughest position to fill.
We will have Shabir Khan for Saturday but he is going to be suspended for four matches next month, a third of the games we have left.
I can accept people getting sent off because things happen in games but for Shabir to lose his head like he did on Monday is stupid and he knows that. We will deal with it internally because I can’t afford to have players doing stupid things. It was out of character.
