I BELIEVE the people of Worcester can help bring success to the club this season.

There was more rebuilding to be done with the squad than we first anticipated over the summer but I think we have been wise with the players we have brought in and I am quite hopeful of doing well.

I think it’s impossible to predict where we will finish in Blue Square Bet North but I do expect an improvement on the league position from last year. If we can do that, then we are going in the right direction.

I have always said I want to improve year-on-year. Everyone has initial ambitions of challenging for the championship and play-offs and all managers will be aspiring to that.

Achieving that is going to be a big ask for us because there are some big hitters in the division but we feel we have assembled a decent group of players.

If people come out and support us we might be able to strengthen during the campaign because Worcester City have the ability to draw fans through the gates quickly following a bit of success.

Boston United made the play-offs last year with a big budget because of their attendances and the people of Worcester can make that much of a difference to us.

Can we challenge for the play-off places? We would need everything to go for us and, although season ticket sales are very encouraging, we would need to increase the crowds to get more funds in.

There has been optimism at the club for the past couple of years and, by coming down to St George’s Lane, the fans can make a big impact.

We were entertaining to watch last season and that won’t be any different this year, although we have to complement it with a physical presence.

That was one of two issues we needed to address because sometimes you have to mix it up when the pitches change and make the game ugly.

The other problem was the squad’s strength in depth.

When we got injuries last season we couldn’t sustain a run of results because the same players were involved week in, week out.

I think we have improved both those areas with signing, among others, Emeka Nwadike, Mike Symons, Simon Brown, Danny Edwards and Lee Ayres.

Away from ourselves, the clubs in the play-offs last season will be in the mix again and I expect Gainsborough Trinity to have a better season, while Harrogate have also spent a lot of money.

Newly-promoted Halifax are a big club with large resources and will have aspirations of success but I don’t think they will get it all their own way.

One thing is for certain, however, there will be one or two surprise packages.
