WITH several away games coming up in the next few weeks, it is important we concede fewer goals on our travels.

Worcester City have shipped 15 in four away matches this season — four at Droylsden, Altrincham and Guiseley and three at Gloucester.

We still need to be harder to beat and keep more clean sheets to ensure our progress continues in Blue Square Bet North.

We stopped Colwyn Bay and Eastleigh scoring and won comfortably at Histon in August so have proved we can do it. Now it’s about doing it on a more consistent basis to give us a platform to win more games.

There haven’t been many draws on the road but you are better off winning one and losing one rather than drawing two — it’s about accumulating the most points you can.

I love coming back on the team coach when we have won away from home, there’s no better feeling. Likewise, however, if you’ve not had a good result, it can be quite painful.

Following the New Year’s Day defeat at Gloucester, there are three more away games to come this month and they all pose different challenges.

Starting at Vauxhall Motors on Saturday, we will have to generate the atmosphere ourselves because they hardly get any support at Rivacre Park.

Halifax, who we play seven days later, are well supported and have a large stadium so that will be a different type of game.

Then we go to Workington on January 28 and we are all aware of what happened last season when the game was called off with us already at the ground.

That provides its own challenge because we are looking at the possibility of travelling overnight but it’s a case of whether to do that or not because the weather could turn. You just have to prepare for the game as best you can.

It does seem strange that we have so many games away from St George’s Lane at the moment and it’s also strange that we have played some teams twice yet have still to play others once.

There have been two matches against Gloucester, Guiseley, Hyde and Altrincham, but there’s a glut of sides we haven’t faced yet such as Boston United, Workington and Gainsborough.

It is not ideal but with Evesham ground-sharing at the Lane, their home fixtures in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division have to be taken into account.

Meanwhile, Luke Corbett will be staying on loan at Leamington for the foreseeable future.

He is dual-registered but we have a lot of striking options with Mike Symons, Simon Brown, Danny Carey-Bertram, Michael Taylor and Lee Smith.

Symmo has been excellent and it’s about trying to find someone to partner him or complement what he brings to the team.

It’s difficult to keep players happy but it benefits Luke to be playing rather than sitting on the bench.
