TYLER Weir made a shock return to Worcester City but couldn’t help drag them off the foot of the table.

The left-back featured in the 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Leamington at Aggborough, City's heaviest on home soil this term, just hours after quitting Skrill North rivals Gloucester.

Weir left Worcester in the summer to sign a two-year deal with the Whaddon Road tenants but has since had that terminated by the Tigers.

But he and his team-mates had a night to forget, while former Stourbridge keeper Lewis Solly, replacing the injured Jose Veiga, spent his debut picking the ball out of the net.

The result left City rooted to the bottom of the league with still just one win to their name from 15 matches.

For all their effort, the hosts shipped two soft goals in the first-half while their poor finishing underlined why they are the division’s lowest scorers.

The Blue and Whites now have the unenviable record of having failed to score in their last six league games.

Despite that, City almost took the lead after three minutes with Dior Angus’ effort being cleared off the line before Brakes defender Josh Green sliced wide of his own goal.

But that bright start was soon eroded as sloppy defending allowed Leamington to open the scoring.

Former Worcester winger Matt Dodd weaved his way through several challenges before picking out an unmarked Stefan Moore to head home.

Things got worse for the hosts 13 minutes later as more slack marking allowed Lee Chilton to pounce on Joe Magunda’s right-wing cross and double the advantage.

Worcester picked up the pace before the break with a good spell of pressure but, agonisingly, were unable to force a way through.

Danny Glover twice went close, Ellis Deeney had a drive parried by Tony Breeden, Niall Thompson’s effort was deflected wide and captain Graham Hutchison powered his header over from a corner.

Worcester were quickest out of the blocks in the second half with Angus and Thompson both having shots saved by Breeden.

Daniel Nti replaced Aaron Williams in the 55th minute for his first appearance since the FA Cup defeat at Lincoln but three minutes later the hosts were further behind.

Central defender Sam Smith was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box following a corner and, despite the City protests, Dodd sent Solly the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Worcester kept their heads up but their finishing continued to let them down with Richard Taundry prodding wide and Breeden saving from Nti.
