WORCESTER City climbed out of the Skrill North relegation zone following a keenly-fought goalless draw against Guiseley.

It was a match of few clear-cut chances with little to choose between the sides at Aggborough.

But it stretched City's unbeaten run to three games and, following last Saturday's victory at Stalybridge, was their second without defeat in the league.

The performance was a committed one from Carl Heeley’s side and, crucially, the precious point lifted them to 18th in the table.

In doing so, they also ended in-form Guiseley’s five-match winning run in the league.

The crowd of 337 was the lowest at Aggborough this season but City will be hoping their fans will be back in force for Saturday’s FA Trophy visit of Telford United.

The first-half was a tale of two sides decent in possession but unable to break their opponents down and fashion clear cut chances.

Guiseley dominated the first quarter with the confidence of a side that had won their last five league matches. But Worcester, who gave a home debut to on-loan Tamworth central defender Matt Regan in place of Shabir Khan, stood firm and controlled the game up until half-time without troubling keeper Steve Drench.

Opposite number Ryan Boot was also a virtual spectator with the visitors having precious little to show for their spell on top.

As the game progressed, the hosts began to press their opponents into mistakes but what chances they had, they wasted.

Steven Leslie three times took aim from distance and on each occasion the midfielder was wayward.

City finished the half in the ascendancy and Aaron Williams glanced a header wide from Ellis Deeney's corner.

Worcester, who had Saturday’s match-winner, Daniel Nti, booked, continued in the same vein after the break but it was Guiseley who finally produced a shot on target, with Boot saving from sub Louie Swain.

As both sides probed in search of breaking the deadlock, so the game began to open up.

Tyler Weir’s cross-shot was palmed away by Drench from under his bar and Richard Taundry was also thwarted by the visiting keeper from distance.

City began to turn the screw and threw on Danny Glover and Ebby Nelson-Addy for Leslie and Aaron Williams.

Moore went close but his effort inside the box was charged down as City kept their foot on the gas.

Guiseley also threatened briefly in stoppage time, forcing the hosts to defend two set-pieces.
