DANIEL Nti came off the bench to score seven minutes from time and send Worcester City into the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in nine years.

Stunned by substitute Billy Bennett’s equaliser on the hour, following captain Ellis Deeney’s deflected opener, Nti swept the ball home at a corner to send the home crowd into delirium.

City, who dominated the first-half, were made to work for their victory and the relief was palpable around Aggborough.

Roared on by a season-high crowd of 896, the Blue and Whites can now look forward to tonight’s draw live on the BBC.

They forged the first opening as early as the fifth minute. Jordan Murphy tricked his way down the right before finding Nick Wright in the box, but he shot wide when feeding Connor Gater, in acres of space to his left, looked the better option.

But the hosts continued to dominate with Sean Geddes and Deeney going close.

Greenwich’s physicality boiled over with bookings in the space of three minutes for defensive duo Joe Vines and Chris Saunders.

City’s pressure eventually told in the 20th minute as the ball dropped to Deeney on the edge of the box and the skipper’s effort struck a defender and looped over the stranded Craig Hollaway.

Wright drilled the ball over soon after as City looked to capitalise on their possession.

On-loan Walsall forward Murphy posed a threat down the right but in Geddes, Wright and Gater, Worcester were never short of options in the final third. Their build-up play was patient but making the most of such situations has plagued them on occasions this season.

Greenwich, who had Football League veteran Gary Alexander in their midfield, sensed they had been let off the hook and made life uncomfortable for the hosts after the break.

They equalised on the hour following an error from Nathan Vaughan. The keeper spilled Chris Edwards’ free-kick, whipped in from the left, and substitute Bennett swept the loose ball into the net.

Rocked, City looked to up the ante and George Williams drew a save from Hollaway after weaving his way into the box.

Tyler Weir also unleashed a rocket that fizzed inches over the bar, while sub Nti flashed a header just wide.

Heeley threw on Tristan Dunkley for his first appearance since suffering a dislocated shoulder in the second qualifying round victory over Rugby and City went for broke.

But Greenwich kept plugging away and it took until the 83rd minute for the goal to arrive.

Deeney swung in a corner, Greenwich failed to clear the ball amid a desperate scramble and Nti pounced to steer it home.
