TEN-MAN Worcester City produced a battling display to earn a 1-1 draw against Guiseley at Aggborough.

Carl Heeley’s side defended ferociously at times after playing for more than a hour a man short after Aaron Brown had been sent off.

But, despite that setback, Mike Symons put the hosts ahead 14 minutes before the break, a lead that was cancelled out by Adam Boyes’ 64th minute equaliser.

Guiseley had the better chances to win but they came up against a Worcester side who showed dogged determination to keep the Yorkshiremen at bay.

It was City’s second point in three days following Saturday’s 3-3 thriller at Chorley and secured in front of just 333 fans — Worcester’s lowest home crowd of the season.

The hosts, who gave a start to on-loan defender Jonathan Lynch in place of the injured Shabir Khan at left-back, were on the front foot from the start, snapping at the heels of their opponents.

But the game came to life in the 23rd minute when City were reduced to 10 men. Wayne Brooksby strode through midfield and, as he approached the penalty area, was scythed down by Brown. The Worcester defender was adjudged to be the last man by referee Tim Wood and was sent off.

That blew a hole in City’s well organised and prompted a reshuffle.

But the hosts defied their inferior numbers, kept their composure and took the lead eight minutes later.

Sean Geddes delivered a pin-point corner onto the head of Symons and he directed the ball into the far corner of the net for his eighth goal of the campaign.

Predictably, the visitors began to see more the ball but they continually wasted possession and created little to worry Worcester.

The second-half followed a similar pattern with Guiseley enjoying the lion’s share of possession but, as in the first period, their finishing was generally woeful.

City though stuck to their task and they worked hard to keep their shape, while looking to hit their opponents on the break.

But Guiseley eventually found a way through in the 64th minute. A cross from the left was met by the head of substitute Nicky Boshell, his effort hit Liam Dickinson on the line but Boyes forced the loose ball home from close range.

But City were not in the mood to lie down and took the game to their visitors, utilising the pace of substitutes Daniel Nti and Micah Evans.

Wayne Thomas also made several forays forward and Kyle Haynes forced Steven Drench to parry his 77th minute drive.
