WORCESTER City endured a miserable night at Aggborough as they were thrashed 4-0 by title-chasing Fylde.

The Blue and Whites conceded twice in each half as Fylde inflicted the same margin of defeat as in their September meeting in Lancashire to take over Barrow, City’s visitors on Saturday, at the top of Conference North.

City also finished the match with 10 men after top-scorer Sean Geddes picked up two yellow cards in the second-half and was sent off.

The hosts, with assistant Matt Gardiner in charge due to manager Carl Heeley being away on business, were on the back foot following Josh Wilson’s fourth-minute goal.

Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick doubled the lead in the 36th minute before Danny Rowe and Wilson struck in four second-half minutes.

It took until just before the hour for City to register their first shot on target and, despite plenty of endeavour, they struggled throughout.

Johnny Lynch remained at left-back after having his loan from Southport extended until the end of the season but Micah Evans’ stay from the same club was not prolonged.

City, who tweaked their system to incorporate Mike Symons’ return in the absence of the injured Danny Jackman, fell behind after just four minutes.

Dion Charles meandered forward from midfield and was allowed to get into the area from the right before squaring the ball for Wilson to tap home from inside the six-yard box.

Worcester kept plugging away in response but could not find a way through.

Tristian Dunkley had their best effort of the half but could only fire over after swivelling into position 12 yards out.

The visitors, missing top-scorer Ritchie Allen through illness, scored a second nine minutes before the break.

Again, it came down the City left with Rowe supplying the cross from the byline for Lloyd-McGoldrick to stab home from close range.

Keeper Ryan Boot blocked from Lloyd-McGoldrick early in the second-half, while opposite number Ben Hinchliffe, who had a spell at Worcester in 2009, was called into action for the first time in the 56th minute to thwart Geddes.

City introduced Nick Wright for Daniel Nti just past the hour mark and the former Kidderminster Harriers striker almost made an immediate impact as his flicked header from Geddes’ free-kick was pushed away by Hinchliffe.

But City’s brief resurgence was snuffed out in the 70th minute when Lynch let the ball bounce in the box and Rowe drilled it beyond Boot into the roof of the net.

A second yellow card for Geddes three minutes later did not help their cause and things got even worse as the resulting free-kick from Wilson deflected off the wall and deceived Boot for Fylde’s fourth.
