THREE days after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser, Worcester City scored one of their own as Mike Symons earned a deserved point from a 1-1 draw against Brackley Town at Aggborough.

Symons smashed the ball home from inside the penalty area with seconds left on the clock after Daniel Nti had knocked down captain Ellis Deeney’s long ball forward.

It was no less than Carl Heeley’s side merited following a match they dominated after falling behind to Greg Kaziboni’s 14th-minute strike.

Prior to that, City, who were denied victory at the death against Lowestoft Town on Saturday, had squandered a host of chances to kill off a determined Brackley team who looked to be heading for a vital three points in their battle to avoid relegation from Conference North.

City’s first opportunity fell to academy midfielder Joao Sousa whose left-footed volley from inside the box was acrobatically saved by veteran keeper Billy Turley.

But they fell behind in the 14th minute through a superb individual goal from Kaziboni, who brought the ball forward to the edge of the box before unleashing a vicious dipping drive beyond the grasp of Nathan Vaughan.

City sought a way back and Symons glanced a header inches wide of a post following Kyle Haynes’ cross.

Worcester started the second-half positively but it took until the hour mark, following the introduction of top-scorer Sean Geddes from the bench, for Sousa to force a good low save out of Turley.

The hosts were almost made to pay for their profligacy late on but Jacob Rowe cleared the ball off the line after Eric Odhiambo had gone round Vaughan.

Then, deep into stoppage-time, added largely as a result of Brackley’s time-wasting, City’s perseverance reaped its reward as Symons rescued a point.
