CHEKAINE Steele struck just two minutes after coming off the bench tonight to set up an FA Trophy reunion for Worcester City with Daniel Nti at York City.

Steele was on the spot for a tap-in with almost his first touch of the game to secure a 2-1 comeback victory at Curzon Ashton and book the first-round trip to York a week on Saturday.

Paul Ennis put Curzon ahead but City responded in determined fashion with Connor Hughes leading the charge, levelling the game before the break before Steele struck with just 10 minutes to spare.

Steele’s effort had spared the blushes of Colby Bishop, who missed an earlier penalty.

Worcester could have been behind after just three minutes had it not been for goalkeeper Ethan Ross.

Luke Clark fizzed an effort bound for the top corner which Ross acrobatically denied.

Iain Howard fired over from the resulting corner.

City could not get on the ball and it only took 20 minutes before the hosts put themselves ahead.

Joe Guest’s low cross could not be cleared by the lunging Danny Jackman, who could only divert it for Paul Ennis to prod home.

Further Curzon chances followed as Adam Morgan and Clark were denied, leaving Ross raging at his defenders.

It seemed to do the trick and from there Worcester began to look dangerous.

Firstly, Hughes crossed for Junior English but his effort could only find keeper Cameron Mason’s hands.

Hughes again swung in a ball a minute later and Bishop found himself with the goal gaping but somehow put his effort wide.

So it was perhaps only right that it was Hughes himself who brought City level.

A succulent passing move found its way to the winger on the edge of the box and he curled the ball perfectly into the far corner for his first goal since signing from Halifax.

City continued to dominate until the end of the half, out-working and out-passing their Mancunian opponents.

Worcester started the second half in a similar vein, pressing hard and putting Curzon under pressure.

But it took until the 65th minute for the half to truly spring into life and Worcester were gifted the chance to take the lead when English was hauled down in the box.

Bishop stepped up but the effort was tame with Mason saving low to his left-hand side.

Hughes was denied by the impressive Mason and Cieron Keane’s attempt was wayward after taking on three defenders.

The pressure eventually told and City manager Carl Heeley will take the assist.

The ball was whipped into the area and waiting in the wings was Steele, just two minutes after coming onto the pitch.

Now City will head to York after the third qualifying round win and meet up again with forward Nti, who left for the National League side in the summer.
