MANAGER Carl Heeley believes Worcester City would have beaten Guiseley had striker Mike Symons played the whole game.

City were leading 2-0 at half-time, with goals from Symons and Lee Ayres, but were pegged back to 2-2, with Gavin Rothery netting a 93rd minute penalty, after the striker had departed with a hamstring injury.

Heeley said: “We were in control of the game and certainly in the first-half we were far superior to them.

“Symons had a great chance to make it three just into the second-half but unfortunately he couldn’t take it.

“The game-changing moment for me was a few minutes later when he pulled his hamstring, which was a major setback for us. From that moment they took control of the game.

“We tried to put Luke Corbett up front but holding the ball up is not his game and we got forced deeper and deeper.

“I firmly believe had Symons stayed on the pitch we would have won the game.

“When situations like that occur, players who go on have to make an impact and that didn’t really happen for us.”
