MANAGER Carl Heeley insists any additions at Worcester City would have to improve the existing squad.

With right-back Martyn Naylor suspended for the back-to-back local derbies against Gloucester City and holding midfielder Rob Elvins still on his way back from shoulder ligament damage, City have been scouring the market for cover.

There were suggestions of drafting a player in for last weekend’s trip to Colwyn Bay, which Worcester won 2-0, and work is continuing with targets behind the scenes.

However, Heeley is not about to recruit purely to make up the numbers and, with his side challenging for the Blue Square Bet North play-offs, is only interested in players who are better than the current crop.

He said: “We have irons in the fire but it has to be on our terms and they have to be better players than we have got.

“If nothing happens, we are happy with what we have got.

“There’s nothing definite. I wouldn’t rule it out but I don’t anticipate anything at this moment in time.

“They would have to come in and make an immediate impact.”

City are currently operating with a squad of 18, although striker Luke Corbett is currently on a one-month loan at Leamington.
