VETERAN defender Stuart Whitehead earned high praise from Worcester City manager Carl Heeley after the 0-0 Blue Square Bet North draw at Workington.
The former Telford United centre-half played a major role as City kept their first clean sheet since winning at Colwyn Bay on December 17.
Heeley said: “Stuart was magnificent. His experience at the back was enormously important in a proper non-league game between two committed teams.
“He was reading the situation really well and his timing of clearances under pressure was outstanding.
“We have been on a frustrating run of four successive defeats so to get our first point of 2012 was a big relief. Every team has a blip at some point and hopefully we are coming out of ours.
“The way we defended was vital, especially in the second-half when I don’t think Workington got in a clear shot at goal.”
Heeley was well satisfied with the debut of former Derby winger Greg Mills and said: “He did well coming in at short notice and is going to be an asset to us over the last three months of the season.”
