WORCESTER City take on Histon at St George’s Lane tonight (7.45) bidding to record their first win in six games.
Carl Heeley’s team ended a run of four straight Blue Square Bet North defeats with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Workington on Saturday.
Now they are looking to build on that performance and begin their climb back towards the play-off positions.
Following the Borough Park stalemate, City dropped to 10th in the table but can reclaim some lost ground with success against Histon.
Worcester are also out to do the double over their Cambridgeshire opponents after winning 5-1 at the Glass World Stadium in August courtesy of a Mike Symons hat-trick.
“It’s a good opportunity to get back to winning ways,” Heeley said. “The players really want to do well and it’s only a matter of time before we go and win another game and then people will look at things differently.
“We played solidly at Workington and didn’t look like conceding. It was nice to stop the rot and get a foothold and something to build on.
“It’s going to be a challenge tonight because the game comes quickly after a long journey but there was a lot to take heart from on Saturday.
“The new players are starting to settle in and we saw how Stuart Whitehead benefits the team because he organises us.”
Histon are 15th in the table but come into the match having held title-chasing Guiseley to a 2-2 draw at the weekend.
The Lane clash, expected to go ahead after frost covers were placed on the main stand side of the ground yesterday, could also see versatile midfielder Rob Elvins return to the fray.
Elvins, out with shoulder ligament damage since December 3, travelled to Workington as cover but was able to take part in a training session and is in the frame to face Histon.
Heeley added: “It’s an opportunity to do a double. Histon will have learned about the league since then but it’s a game we have to look to pick up points from.
“We should be confident and we are looking forward to it.”
Admission prices for tonight’s match have been reduced to £7 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for under 16s.
