We will win soon says City boss

MANAGER Carl Heeley believes his Worcester City side will end their long wait for a victory sooner rather than later.

Last night’s 1-1 draw against Histon at St George’s Lane means City have now gone six games - the whole of January - without winning.

Although the point, secured by Tom Thorley’s second-half penalty cancelling out Dan Holman’s spot-kick, lifted them to ninth in Blue Square Bet North, Worcester are now eight points adrift of the play-off places.

However, Heeley reckons his team is playing well and, having had two efforts ruled out for offside against Histon, feels they just need some luck to go their way.

He said: “We are little bit frustrated with how the results have been going since the turn of the year but we are trying incredibly hard and a win is just around the corner, I am convinced of it. I don’t think a win is too far away.

“The positives are we haven’t got beaten and we’ve taken another point but in the last third it’s not quite happening for us at the moment.”

The City boss, who though Danny Carey-Bertram’s second-half strike should have counted, added: “Once we got ourselves level we had enough possession and put balls into danger areas to have won it.

“I’m not distraught we haven’t won the game but slightly frustrated because I felt, with the extra man, we penned them back for long periods.

“They still looked dangerous on the counter attack but I thought we were the only side going to win it.”

Heeley also praised the impact of winger Greg Mills whose man-of-the-match display saw him tripped for the equalising penalty.

“I thought Greg Mills was a major threat and if we can get him on to a better surface then I think we’ll see the benefits of him,” he added.
