Form upturn call by City hitman Mike

TIME FOR CHANGE: Frustrated by his side’s postponed matches, Worcester City striker Mike Symons has targeted their next clash against Solihull Moors for his side to get their play-off bid back on track.

TOP-scorer Mike Symons hopes next Saturday’s clash at Solihull Moors will be the beginning of a fresh successful run for Worcester City.

Having gone six games unbeaten up to the end of 2011, City’s Blue Square Bet North play-off push hit the buffers as they failed to register a single victory throughout January.

Their wait to end the sequence has quite literally been put on ice with today’s fixture at Boston United following last Saturday’s match with Gainsborough Trinity in being postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Striker Symons, with 15 goals to his name so far this term, said: “It was a difficult January.

“We missed out on a few points but just need that one win to get ourselves back on track.

“Hopefully, that will come at Solihull and maybe then we can go on a run of three or four games. February is a big month for us.”

With the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final at Stourbridge also falling foul of the weather last Tuesday, it has been a frustrating time for the players.

However, the training schedule has not been hit by the elements as in previous seasons even if the matches are called off.

City have been able to prepare for games as normal on the 3G pitch at Pershore High School.

“It’s frustrating because you look forward to games,” added Symons, who is looking to end a run of three matches without a goal.

“It’s been difficult at times but we have been training on Tuesdays and Thursdays and keeping ourselves ticking over. We need to prepare right for games.

“We need to keep ourselves focused and in shape for when we do play.”

Today’s postponed fixture at Boston’s The Jakemans Stadium has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 27 (7.45pm).
