WORCESTER City take on their second Premier League side in the space of a week when Aston Villa visit St George’s Lane tonight (7.45pm).

Carl Heeley’s team defeated a West Bromwich Albion academy side 1-0 last Tuesday as part of their friendly schedule and will be looking for a repeat result against the Baggies’ top-flight rivals.

With Villa’s first team touring the United States, City will again be facing an under 21s side but still players with aspirations of breaking into Paul Lambert’s main squad.

City are also hoping for another large crowd, following the four-figure gate against Albion and 867 for last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Hereford United.

Heeley said: “The Albion lads last week were all big, strong athletes and play a slightly different type of football because that’s the way they’re coached.

“It’s going to be another good test for us and we’re thoroughly looking forward to it.

“The size of the crowd is a plus because the finances are important and it’s another high-profile game that should capture the imagination.”

Worcester will be looking to get more players through the whole game as they step up their fitness levels ahead of the new campaign.

Former Cheltenham Town right-back Kyle Haynes, who is on trial at the Lane, played the whole game against Hereford, while midfielder Tom Thorley played 85 minutes and returning striker Danny Glover 77.

Heeley added: “We have been back since July 3 and had three games now but you have to get to the point when you gradually start getting boys 90 minutes.

“The aim is, by the time the season arrives, for them to all be flying fit and we’ll have a good solid squad.”

Right-back Tyler Weir and forward Simon Brown may not be involved after missing Saturday’s game through holiday commitments but centre-half Jacob Rowe was on the bench against the Bulls and could feature tonight.
