DANNY Edwards says he is determined to overcome his latest injury nightmare and return to the Worcester City team.

The 30-year-old left-sided player suffered a suspected broken left ankle in Monday's 4-0 defeat at Hednesford Town, only his third appearance for the Blue and Whites since a year out with a serious knee injury.

Edwards, who is still waiting for confirmation on the break, is now facing a spell in plaster and a summer on the sidelines.

It is a cruel blow for the player, who needed surgery after sustaining cruciate ligament damage playing for City against Corby Town in March 2013.

That was his second major knee problem having gone under the knife to repair the cruciate ligament in the opposite joint 10 years ago.

But he wants to be part of Carl Heeley's squad next season and is keen to repay the club's loyalty.

"I think if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck having just come back from the cruciate injury," Edwards said.

"I'm gutted to be honest, I've worked hard to get back and then something like this happens. It doesn't seem to happen to anyone else.

"Hopefully, if it's confirmed as just being a fracture then it won't take long. I'll be in plaster for six weeks and I've got the summer to recover.

"I've had quite a few messages of support from the gaffer and Gards (Matt Gardiner) saying I'm welcome to come back but it's hard when you've had two knocks like that in a row. But I like to think of myself as being quite determined to get back.

"Hopefully, it won't be too long and I'll be able to get myself back fit again for pre-season because I want to be back."

Edwards made his comeback in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final against Redditch United last month and was also a substitute at Workington earlier this month.

He continued: "I was really fit in training and even the lads were saying before I started playing that it looked like I was ahead of schedule and I was.

"I was getting really sharp and we came to the conclusion that they would try to get me a few minutes before the end of the season just to get a bit of confidence back having been out for that long.

"The club's been brilliant to me with the last injury and they've said they're there if I need anything. I'm grateful to the club for sticking by me."

Edwards added: "The one good thing is I've had no problems at all with the knee. I managed to get to see one of the best specialists and I've been up to Lilleshall to get the best treatment and I haven't had any side effects."
