CARL Heeley believes Worcester City are a match for anyone in the Conference North despite insisting the league is the strongest it has been since being formed a decade ago.

The Blue and Whites head to Brackley Town today (3pm) looking for their first win in five attempts having so far drawn against Tamworth, Oxford and Stalybridge and lost to Guiseley.

But manager Heeley has been pleased with how his players have acquitted themselves to date and says they are capable of mixing it with the best the division has to offer.

“This is probably the toughest ever Conference North since it’s been formed,” he said. “There are no easy games and I think we’ve seen that with the quality of the four games we’ve played.

“I don’t see a weak team and it’s going to be a tough season if you look at the sides that have gone out of the league and the ones who’ve come in.

“Tamworth have replaced Histon for example and Tamworth are a very good side. Chorley and Fylde have got decent resources and they’ve spent well.

“There’s a few clubs spending money and having a go at it this season with the likes of Harrogate and Guiseley.

“We’ve always looked at four or five teams in the league and think they’re going to be down the bottom but I’d struggle to tell which those are at the moment.

“I think we can achieve things in the league if we have that little bit of fortune which has probably deserted us in the first four games. Results will come for us, we’re not going to be a struggling side on what I’ve seen.”

Brackley’s start to the campaign has been less than convincing with three defeats in four games, including a 2-1 loss at Leamington at the weekend.

City have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to St James Park but Heeley hasn’t ruled out making changes.

The Worcester manager said: “Brackley are another team that have been knocking on the door of the play-offs every year they have been in the division. They’ve made a few changes this summer but it’s never easy.

“We go there with a little bit of confidence and a belief that we can win the game. With that little bit of fortune that you need in football, I think a win’s round the corner.”
