CARL Heeley reckons there could be good times ahead for Worcester City if the first nine games of the season are anything to go by.

Saturday’s 2-0 victory over table-topping Chorley was City’s third in four games and lifted them to ninth in Vanarama Conference North.

Having taken seven points from games against five of the current top six, with a trip to new leaders AFC Fylde to come on Saturday, Heeley feels there are plenty of reasons to be positive.

The Blue and Whites boss, whose side travel to Stockport County tomorrow (7.45pm), said: “People have said that Worcester are a decent side but they can’t beat the teams at the top when it matters.

“But I think we’ve corrected that over part of the last campaign and certainly this season.

“We’ve competed in every game and beaten the sides that have started the season off well.

“If the performances and how we’ve acquitted ourselves against all the teams are anything to go by then we can have cause for a little bit of optimism without getting too carried away.”

Heeley believes Sean Geddes, recently signed from Stourbridge, has played a major role in the last two wins.

He added: “It’s helped putting Sean in the 10 role because he’s natural and knows the position whereas in the past we’ve probably tried to play a withdrawn forward in there or wingers.

“He’s given us that balance and links up play.”
