IT was a case of mission accomplished for manager Carl Heeley as Worcester City booked their place in today’s FA Cup third qualifying round draw.

A brace from Sean Geddes either side of Jacob Rowe’s header in the second-half saw City ease through despite Jamie Towers giving Rugby Town a glimmer of hope at 2-1.

“The aim at 3pm was to get into the next round and it’s a bonus that we played well but the result is everything,” Heeley said.

“I thought we were in control of the game pretty much from start to finish and scored some good goals.

“It probably should have been more but we’ve got ourselves into the hat for the next round and that’s all that matters so we’re delighted with that.

“We created a lot of chances and at half-time we were critical that we hadn’t stuck at least one away but we had to wear them down, be patient and keep the ball.

“We did that and eventually the goal came and it was pretty much home and dry from then on.”

Heeley continued: “They threw caution to the wind at 2-0 and we gave away a needless corner.

“We blocked it on the line and their lad’s followed up but, in all honesty with respect to them, I thought it was just a consolation because they never really threatened to get back into it.

“It was more likely we were going to get a third than them equalise.”

On former Stourbridge midfielder Geddes’ double, the Blue and Whites boss added: “We brought Sean in to score goals for us.

“He’s got a good record of that and has got three goals in the short time he’s been here.

“They were very similar strikes from 20 yards and he put them both away.

“We know he can do that and they were super finishes.”
