WORCESTER City have nothing to fear in tomorrow’s FA Cup clash at Vanarama Conference North rivals Leamington (3pm), according to defender Tyler Weir.

City midfielder David McDermott (hamstring) and forward Mike Symons (ankle) are struggling with injuries.

But Weir believes the third qualifying round tie is a winnable one for City at the New Windmill Ground.

“We are full of confidence after last Saturday’s victory against Gainsborough,” said left-back Weir.

“We are just focusing on going there to win — it’s a winnable game for us.”

A triumph would move the Blue and Whites within a stage of the first round proper.

Weir knows the magic of the FA Cup — he was part of Jamie Pitman’s Hereford United squad who took on Sheffield Wednesday in a fourth-round tie at Hillsborough in January 2011.

“When I was at Hereford as a young lad we went to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup — it was a fantastic day and one I will always remember,” recalled Weir.

“Sadly, I didn’t get on to the field — I was on the bench — but it was a fantastic experience and the atmosphere was special.

“Stuart Fleetwood gave us the lead but we had a player sent off and ended up losing the tie 4-1.”

Last season, Weir said he was in the Gloucester City side, who reached the first round proper before losing 2-0 to Fleetwood Town.

Weir thinks City’s confidence will be high after goals from George Williams and Sean Geddes fired them to their first away win — 2-1 at Gainsborough Trinity — last weekend.

“I had been to Gainsborough four times in the past and had never won there so it was fantastic.

“We scored two goals but it could easily have been four. Nick Wright hit the woodwork twice and I don’t know how the ball didn’t go into the net.

“We made it a bit hard for ourselves in the final 10 minutes after conceding a goal but held on for the three points and it was an excellent win.

“The first goal gave us a renewed sense of relief because it was the first we had scored away from home this season.”

Former Kidderminster Harriers forward Wright could be in line to replace Symons, who strained his ankle ligaments in the win at Gainsborough.

Leamington are one position below ninth-placed City in the league table, just one point behind with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, City lost 4-3 to Stratford Town in the FA Youth Cup second qualifying round.
