WORCESTER City can’t let thoughts of FA Cup success sidetrack them from their quest for league points, says manager Carl Heeley.

Excitement is building at the club ahead of next Sunday’s fourth qualifying round match against Greenwich Borough, with a place in the first round proper at stake.

Tomorrow they return to Vanarama Conference North action when Harrogate Town visit Aggborough (3pm).

Following back-to-back matches against Leamington in the cup, with City eventually prevailing 2-0 in Tuesday’s replay, it has been a fortnight since Heeley’s side won 2-1 at Gainsborough Trinity.

That broke their away duck in the league and, coupled with their FA Cup exploits, are now five games unbeaten in all competitions.

Victory tomorrow would edge City closer to the play-off zone and Heeley says league success has to be the priority.

“The cup is done, we’ve got a fourth qualifying round to look forward to, but we’ve got to be professional,” the Worcester boss said. “The league is our bread and butter and we’ve got to do the business in the league.

“We will have three more training sessions at least before the cup game so it’s all focused back to Harrogate in the league.

“The target is to get the next points on the board and do well against Harrogate but as a group there is a big focus on every game and training session. We enjoy each other’s company and that does have a snowball effect. It’s good at the moment, we’re on a little roll and we’re enjoying it.”

City have also scored in each of their last five games and netted nine in total, which is something they didn’t do in the whole of last season.

This is quite a turnaround after failing to hit the target in six of their first 11 games this term — all away from home — but Heeley says he expected the tide to turn.

He explained: “We’re starting to score goals now which doesn’t really surprise me with the calibre of players we’ve got.

“We’ve got a solid base with two good keepers, we’ve got good players and people who work hard so we have to set ourselves realistic little targets of what success we can gain as a group.”

Harrogate haven’t scored in their last two matches, drawing 0-0 against Gainsborough and losing 4-0 to Chorley, but they did win 3-1 against Leamington last month.
