SUPPORTERS have gone ticket crazy for Worcester City’s FA Cup derby against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.

City fans snapped up over 1,000 tickets on the first day of over-the-counter sales at Worcester Tourist Information Centre.

More than 1,700 travelling supporters have already pinned their Blue and White colours to the mast for Sunday’s mouth-watering first-round clash (2pm).

City company secretary John Jordan says eight official supporters’ coaches have already been filled.

Fans from Kidderminster Harriers and Hereford United are also believed to be making the trip to Coventry to cheer on Carl Heeley’s men.

Jordan said: “As most people know, the football club is not currently in Worcester and the sales show that there is still an appetite for a football club in the city. The match tickets went on general sale to the public on Tuesday and the first block of 1,092 sold out on the first day.

“We have sold several hundred more match tickets from the second batch and we have also sold tickets online through our official website.

“But there is no need for fans to panic because we have a total of 3,600 tickets available to us and supporters can also pay at the gate on the day.”

Former Sky Blues striker Alan Green, who was born in Worcester, will be among those travelling up to the match.

Green, who lives in Kempsey, says League One outfit Coventry cannot take Heeley’s men lightly.

“On paper you automatically assume that a side from League One would sail through against a non-league side at home, but I am sure the Coventry manager is telling his players that they can’t take Worcester lightly,” he said.

“Coventry City might not be as good as they were when they won the FA Cup in 1987 but I think the chairman realises the importance of the tie.”

Jordan admits the tie has caught the imagination of people in Worcester and the surrounding area. He said: “The cup tie has certainly gripped people in Worcester.

“I believe some pubs in Worcester are organising their own transport to the match.”

Match and supporters’ coach tickets will remain on general sale at Worcester Tourist Information Centre until noon on Saturday.
