MANAGER Carl Heeley believes the importance of victory over Leamington in the context of Worcester City’s season cannot be underestimated.

The Blue and Whites ensured there was no FA Cup hangover as they made it 10 games unbeaten with a 2-1 Vanarama Conference North win at Aggborough.

Heeley said: “The question I’ve been asked most was would the boys be up for it or have their heads in the clouds but there was absolutely no chance of that.

"They’re not that sort of group, they are level-headed guys who work hard and they know that anything you achieve in this game you have to work thoroughly hard for every time you put a shirt on.

“It was crucial that we backed up last week. The Scunthorpe game will take care of itself at the beginning of December but we we’ve got three more games before then and we want to try to keep that momentum going up until that game because that gives us a better opportunity.”

City had to wait until the 76th minute for Nick Wright to break the deadlock and Heeley feels it was no more than they deserved for their efforts.

He said: “We didn’t move the ball as fluidly as we can do and, credit to Leamington, they came to stifle us and make it difficult for us.

“They pressed in the middle of the park but we always felt if we could up the pace a bit and string a few passes together, we would get an opportunity.

“There was a 20-minute spell in the second-half when we really started to look the side we have done for the past 10 games.”

Heeley praised coach John Snape for the Sean Geddes-Ellis Deeney free-kick routine that led to Graham Hutchison's goal but was disappointed to concede late on.

The City boss added: “That was probably the blot of the game but we held on relatively comfortably.”
