GEORGE Williams reckons there is no reason why Worcester City cannot continue their FA Cup adventure.

The Blue and Whites take on Scunthorpe United in a second round replay at Aggborough tomorrow night (7.45pm) for what will be their seventh match in the famous competition this season.

With a place in the third round against Chesterfield or MK Dons, who have to replay because the Spireites fielded an ineligible player in their original match, as well as £27,000 in prize money, the stakes are high.

But Williams feels City have nothing to fear having already held the Iron to a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park and defeated 1987 winners Coventry City 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

The right-back and reigning player of the season said: “We know it’s going to be very hard because they made it hard for us at their place, but we overcame Coventry and drew with Scunthorpe at their place so who knows? If we’re at our best anything can happen.

“We’re really looking forward to it. It will be nice to see Aggborough buzzing because, since I have been there, it hasn’t been full.”

He added: “It’s nice to be in the hat for the third round draw but it means nothing considering we’ve still got to beat Scunthorpe. It’s going to be a really tough game so we’re just focusing on that.”

Williams also believes the match will be the highlight of his career date, which includes winning a silver medal with Great Britain at the World University Games in Russia in the summer of 2013.

He said: “I was fortunate enough to do the Great Britain university stuff and there was a really good crowd out on Kazan.

“But I’m pretty sure this will top it, live on TV and in front of the Worcester fans who were brilliant in both the away games.”

With the largest crowd for a City match since the final league match at St George’s Lane in April 2013 on the cards, assistant manager Matt Gardiner is ready to revel in the moment.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it because the last big game we had at home was Chester back at the Lane and what a day that was. It was fantastic.

“The players deserve the opportunity because they’ve been playing really well and they’ve got quite a good brand of football to watch as well. I think people will be entertained.”

City are looking for volunteers to sell programme and draw tickets at the match.

Each person who helps will be given a programme and five draw tickets for every 50 they sell.

The Blue and Whites’ first round Trophy tie against Halifax was postponed on Saturday because parts of the Aggborough pitch were frozen.

Second round ties are scheduled for January 10, 2015.
