WORCESTER City have been dealt a double blow with Tyler Weir on the sidelines until March and Jordan Murphy heading back to Walsall.

Weir broke the fourth metatarsal in his left foot and also sustained ligament damage during the second-half of Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Bradford Park Avenue at Aggborough.

The full-back is expected to be out for eight to 10 weeks, which could potentially see him miss more than 10 Conference North matches as City chase a play-off spot.

Forward Murphy has been recalled by parent club Walsall following three months on loan with Worcester.

City will look to summer signing Connor Gudger at left-back but also have Shabir Khan, Danny Jackman, captain Ellis Deeney and academy prospect Jamie Smith who can play there.

Weir’s injury comes just as City had stabilised their full-back positions by bringing in Kyle Haynes as a replacement for George Williams.

Manager Carl Heeley said: “It’s unfortunate but you get those things which is why it’s important when you have a brilliant run you don’t get carried away because you do get ups and downs.

“It’s a severe blow. We are gutted for Tyler because he’s been superb and will be a big miss.”

Weir tweeted: “Gutted. Foot broken and ligaments. Couldn’t have happened at a worse time.”

Murphy became a key player after establishing himself in Heeley’s team during his stay, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals.

It is not certain whether City will look to replace him or give more minutes to Nick Wright, Tristian Dunkley and Michael Taylor.

Heeley said: “It’s not out of the equation that Jordan could come return but they want him back with a view to being involved with the first-team squad because they have been impressed.

“He goes back a better player and he’s experienced some big games which I am sure will hold him in good stead.”

Murphy tweeted: “Thank you to everyone at Worcester City for everything they’ve done for me while on loan. Good luck to all the boys for the season.”

City are also seeking a new date for their Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final against Redditch United after last night’s tie was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Valley Stadium.

Evesham United’s Southern League match at Cinderford also fell foul of the weather.
