MANAGER Carl Heeley praised the character of his Worcester City team after they twice fought back from behind to draw 2-2 against Hednesford Town.

Goals from Sean Geddes, his 11th of the campaign, and Mike Symons earned a share of the spoils but the Blue and Whites boss felt it could have been more.

He said: “We got caught cold, were 1-0 down inside a minute and everything we had spoken about went out of the window.

“But we responded really well and created opportunities and Sean got us level with one of his free-kicks.

“We fell behind again to a fabulous strike, you can’t do anything about those, but we showed great character, got ourselves level again and I thought we battered them at the end. I’m wondering how we haven’t won the game.

"After coming from behind twice, we were the better side and I think Hednesford will be absolutely delighted with a point.

“The players have had character all season. We lost a game at Gloucester when we were all disappointed in our performances but we’ve come up against Hednesford side who are on the up but I felt we dealt with them and made them defend for their lives at the end.

“If I get a response like that every time then that’s terrific and I can’t ask any more of the players.

“I thought Symmo was terrific and his goal was just reward for a great afternoon’s work.”

City remain 12th in Conference North after picking up their first point since New Year’s Day from a match which was also their first Saturday home league game since November 22.

Heeley, who also questioned Wayne Thomas’ late disallowed effort, added: “We’ve had to change the way we’ve been playing and I thought we played the pitch better, were more effective, put balls into better areas and, physically, caused them all sorts of problems.”
