THE Football Association say they are reviewing the footage of the body-slam by Worcester City defender Shabir Khan.

Shabir was sent off towards the end of Saturday’s 2-0 Conference North victory over Stockport County at Aggborough after reacting angrily to a high challenge by Charlie Russell.

The 29-year-old City left-back, known as Shab, retaliated by lifting Russell off his feet and throwing him to the ground in a WWE-style move.

Shabir’s wrestling manoeuvre has become a social media phenomenon and was yesterday being studied by officials at Wembley, but the organisation declined to make any further comment at this stage.

Shabir is set to be handed a standard three-match ban for being shown a red card, which would come into effect on March 7 and rule him out of home matches against Gainsborough Trinity and Fylde and a trip to Solihull Moors.

But he could yet face further punishment if the FA deem his actions excessive. The game’s governing body have the power to increase suspensions but say they deal with disciplinary issues on a case-by-case basis.

A statement said: “Where a standard charge is deemed insufficient, a further misconduct charge can be raised. If found proven, it would usually carry a sporting sanction.”

There was also a mass brawl involving players from both teams in the aftermath of Shabir’s dismissal, which was followed by a yellow card for Russell, but there is no suggestion that any action will be taken against either club.

Video of the incident has attracted an online audience in the millions and was even featured on Match of the Day 2’s “2 good 2 bad” feature on Sunday.

Meanwhile, City’s bid to forge their way towards the play-offs continues tonight when they take on local rivals Solihull Moors at Aggborough (7.45pm).

Carl Heeley’s side are 10th in the table, seven points adrift of the top five, following back-to-back league wins for the first time since December.

Solihull are just one place and a point below City.

Striker Daniel Nti remains a doubt for the match with the leg injury that ruled him out against Stockport, but midfielder Connor Gater (groin) and keeper Nathan Vaughan (foot) are not fit.

Heeley said: “We are looking at leaving it for seven to 10 days with Connor and just assess how it settles down. The physio suspects it might be a hernia but we’ll have to wait and see.

“Nathan is still struggling with his foot. We haven’t diagnosed what the problem is yet. He’s been for an X-ray and there’s no break but he’s struggling and is not available to play.”
