WORCESTER City fans have come to the defence of Shabir Khan, claiming the player’s six-game ban is not fair.

Shabir had his three-match suspension for his red card against Stockport County, after he body-slammed Charlie Russell, doubled by the Football Association.

Russell was only shown a yellow card for the tackle, which prompted Shabir’s reaction, but the FA cannot upgrade bookings in retrospect.

“The Stockport player who committed the original (horrendous) foul goes unpunished. There’s justice for you,” said City fan Tim Munslow on the club’s internet message board.

Adecrean added: “Lazy answer by the FA. Need to be seen to do something ‘extra’. The ridiculous tackle that led to it goes virtually unpunished.”

On the Worcester News website, MrWXYZ said: “Yet when Chelsea appeal to a player reacting to a bad tackle, they reduce the ban.

“I know throwing a player is a bit worse than shoving a player, but they are both red card offences and the FA have done their usual inconsistent approach.

“If it wasn’t for the internet broadcasting this one, the FA wouldn’t feel the need to review the initial punishment.”

Liketoknow said: “Then they wonder why play acting and diving is rife in football.

“He could have had a broken leg from that tackle, which the referee obviously didn’t see. Hence a yellow card to cover himself.”
