CARL Heeley insists Worcester City’s 4-1 home defeat to Solihull Moors last month will have little bearing on his mindset for tomorrow’s Vanarama Conference North fixture at the Autotech Stadium (3pm).

The City boss admits the Blue and Whites will try to build on last weekend’s 2-0 win over Gainsborough rather than seeking revenge for the drubbing by Moors.

Heeley hopes to welcome back right-back Kyle Haynes after a thigh injury but believes experienced duo Wayne Thomas (back) and Mike Symons (hamstring) face fitness battles.

City’s extensive injury concerns also include midfielder Connor Gater (groin), left-back Tyler Weir (foot) and keeper Nathan Vaughan (foot).

Defender Shabir Khan is serving a six-game ban for his red card for violent conduct against Stockport.

Heeley said: “Playing football is what we want to do and, considering how depleted the squad was, it was a great result against Gainsborough last weekend.

“There’s no guarantee any of the injured players will return after injury but, all being well, we will have Kyle back. It’s touch and go whether Mike will be fit, while Wayne has a back issue.

“The problem with Wayne is that back spasms come and go. Tyler is not yet back in full training.”

City are 10th in Conference North after goals from Tristian Dunkley and Micah Evans against Gainsborough.

The trip to Moors comes just two-and-a-half weeks after Solihull eased to a 4-1 success at Aggborough.

Substitute Aaron Brown headed in City’s goal but Heeley’s men were comfortably beaten at the final whistle.

“We were disappointed with our performance, but that’s done and dusted now,” said Heeley.

“We’re not looking for revenge, we’re looking to try to win our next game. It’s just another match and we have an opportunity to pick up some points.”

Moors are three points adrift of City and slipped to a third successive defeat, 1-0 at Stockport last weekend.

It was the sixth time this term Solihull have been defeated by a solitary goal.

Heeley added: “It’s going to be tough but we’re capable of going there and winning, that’s for sure.”
