MANAGER Carl Heeley insists the time has to be right to blood Worcester City’s youngsters in the first-team.

With seven games to go in Conference North, the Blue and Whites are neither threatening the play-off positions or looking over their shoulder at relegation.

Academy player Dean Waldron has impressed of late, making six starts before being replaced by new signing Jay Denny against Barrow.

Fellow midfielder Joao Sousa, defender Jamie Smith and striker James Lemon have also been named as substitutes.

Although Heeley is keen to involve them he still wants City to pass 60 points.

He said: “We’ve got a lot to play for and we’ve still got aspirations of finishing high up the league but if the time is right to blood a few of the academy lads then we’ll do it.

“But it has to be for the good of the team, it has to be to give a positive impact on what we’re trying to achieve and that’s more points.”

Academy trials for the September intake at the Heart of Worcestershire College take place on Thursday, April 2, at Little Perdiswell at 9.15am.
