WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley insisted his side had claimed “a good point” despite conceding a late equaliser at Crown Meadow.

City looked on course to claim their first victory in four games when Daniel Nti headed his side into the lead, only for Jake Reed to salvage a point for Lowestoft deep into injury time.

“I thought it was a classic away performance for 93 minutes after we defended very, very well,” said Heeley, whose side remain 11th in Conference North with five games to go.

“The only way Lowestoft looked a threat was from set pieces. We always looked threatening on the counter attack – we got ourselves in front but couldn’t see it out.

“We were a bit naïve to give two free-kicks away in quick succession but considering what we had to do today, it’s a hell of a trek to get here, I thought the boys worked incredibly hard.

“It’s not the end of the world and I’m just delighted with how well the lads have acquitted themselves after such a very early start.

“It’s disappointing to concede with the last kick of game but overall it’s a good point for us.”

The match ended on a sour note when goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan, back in the side following Ryan Boot’s recall by Port Vale, was shown a straight red card after clashing with Lowestoft midfielder Rossi Jarvis.

Players from both sides became involved as tensions boiled over but Heeley thought the incident wasn’t as bad as it appeared to supporters.

“We were 30 or 40 yards away ourselves and it’s impossible for us to see what happened clearly,” he said. “It looks terrible when there are 20 to 22 footballers pushing and shoving.

“The referee has seen two players deserving of red cards, one of them being our goalkeeper, but I think it looks a lot worse than it actually was when you break it all down.”
