JOINT manager Matt Gardiner says Worcester City are tracking several players to improve the squad for next season.

City ended the 2014-15 campaign with a 5-3 defeat to Colwyn Bay at Aggborough last Saturday and Gardiner says work has already started on summer recruitment.

Talks with current players are on-going but only top-scorer Sean Geddes and midfielder Connor Gater have contracts for next term.

Gardiner said: “The remit is going to be the same next season, while we’re in exile we need to keep the club at this level of football.

“We’ve just got to be as strong as we possibly can and competitive as we can. We’re not naive, we know it’s going to be a tough league next year, we know there’s going to be lots of players around so it’s really important we get the right ones in early.

“The hard work has already started and when we come back for pre-season training hopefully we’ll have a lot of pieces in the jigsaw ready for next year’s campaign.

“We’ve got several targets that we’ve already identified and the good thing is, because the position the club is in, we’ve actually got players that are making themselves known who are interested to join.

“If they’re better than what we’ve got or of the right quality we will look to bring them in because we always want to do the best we can.”

He continued: “We have been planning for a while, there are areas that we need to strengthen.

“I think next year the league is going to be really tough and we’ve got to improve to stand still.

“We’ve got to strengthen for next year because when you have a season like we’ve had I think the supporters want to see us strengthen and push on again. It’s well within our grasp to do that if we recruit right in the summer.”
