DEFENDER Tyler Weir is hoping to get his first pre-season run-out for Worcester City tomorrow.

City have arranged two friendly fixtures — the Blue and Whites will be sending a team to play Midland League Premier side Coventry Sphinx (11am).

City will be facing newly-promoted Southern League Premier Division outfit Stratford in a warm-up match at the University of Warwick, Leighfield Road, Coventry (3pm).

Weir, who lives in Ledbury and made 39 appearances for City last season, has penned a new one-year deal.

He had a short stint with Brisbane Premier League club Rochedale in Australia earlier in the summer before returning to the UK “for personal reasons.”

Weir said: “I have not been able to train with City but, hopefully, I will be involved in one of the games this weekend. I am keen to play to get some minutes under my belt.”

Weir watched City’s 2-0 win at Bedworth on Tuesday and was delighted by the performances from his team-mates.

“We have signed some very good players and we have a large squad and there is a lot of competition for places,” he said.

Weir revealed he spoke to several clubs when he was out of contract with City and had “six or seven” offers before committing to another year.

“I had a few offers which I thought about but Worcester City are one of the best clubs in the division with an excellent management team,” he said.

"I've been at Worcester now for four years and played nearly every game.

"There aren't many better clubs than Worcester out there.

"After last year's success it would have been stupid for me to leave.

"Wth Gards (Matt Gardiner) going to joint-manager we are only going forward.

"I owe alot to both Carl (Carl Heleley) and Gards."
