ASHLEY Vincent rifled in a stunning 25-yard effort to help Worcester City to a 2-1 victory at Rushall Olympic in their penultimate pre-season outing.

And the wonder-goal could help him decide if he is ready to make the switch from full-time football.

The 30-year-old winger was released by Shrewsbury Town this summer with still a year to run on his contract.

But City joint manager Matt Gardiner admits the former Port Vale and Cheltenham wide-man is undecided if he is ready to go part-time.

“He has come in to have a few games,” Gardiner said. “He’s not had a pre-season as such but some of the little movements he has shows there’s still more to come from him — he just needs to decide whether he wants to still play full-time or go part-time.

"We probably won’t know that until after the weekend. But what a great strike for the goal. That just shows the quality he’s got.”

Vincent’s strike came 12 minutes before the break, the power of the shot giving Rushall keeper Jono Brown no chance.

It was cruel on Brown, who had done well just moments earlier when tipping a Sean Geddes free-kick over the bar.

The home side had created the better chances early on with Aaron Brown hitting the crossbar and midfielder Mitch Tolley forcing a save from Dan Lloyd-Weston in the City goal.

The pick of Worcester’s early chances fell to Ryan Rowe but, after taking the ball around the keeper, he failed to hit the target.

Lloyd-Weston pulled off another good save early in the second-half to keep out a header from Pics substitute Alex Reid.

The striker gained his revenge on 79 minutes when he stole in to tuck the ball away from six yards.

But the visitors hit back to regain the lead four minutes later when Daniel Nti fired home from close range.

Boss Gardiner added: “It was pleasing that Daniel came on and nicked a goal — we just want Ryan to get one because it will do him the world of good settling in.

“It can be difficult because supporters see a number nine come in and expect him to score but he’s another who has come back late from pre-season and he is still getting stronger.

"But he is a quality player and that’s why we have brought him to the football club.

“I am happy with where we are at the moment. There are a few areas where I’d like us to tighten up but that will come with the game time.

“We have another good game on Friday (at home to Birmingham City), which is going to test us, then we have a couple of sessions before the season starts.”
