WORCESTER City joint manager Carl Heeley predicts this season’s Vanarama National League North will be the strongest in history.

The Aggborough-based outfit open their new campaign tomorrow with a trip to Gainsborough Trinity (3pm).

City finished ninth in the division last season and have enjoyed an unbeaten pre-season campaign.

Heeley said: “We have a lot of experience at this level in the management team and we know the league, the teams and players and what needs to be done.

"I think we have a stronger squad than last season but the division will be stronger too. We will see how it goes. We will see how it goes in the first month.”

Heeley, who is co-managing City with Matt Gardiner, believes FC United of Manchester and Solihull Moors will be two of the teams to watch.

“FC United are likely to have some big players judging by the size their gates and Telford are a club who have been up and down in recent years,” said Heeley.

“Solihull have to be among the favourites for the title.”
