PLAYERS need to cut out individual errors if Worcester City are to bounce back from a dismal run of three Vanarama National League North defeats in four games.

That’s the message from joint manager Matt Gardiner, who saw his side lose 3-2 at home to Chorley with the winner coming deep in injury-time as the defence failed to clear their lines.

On a miserable day for City, Sean Geddes became the fourth player in five games to be sent off after the midfielder picked up two second-half bookings.

“Even with 10 men, the manner we have conceded the third goal is simply not acceptable,” Gardiner said.

“We have to cut out the individual mistakes because discipline is also about mental decisions, concentration levels and making the right choices.

“No one wants to lose at that stage in the game but we’ve shot ourselves in the foot again. We are constantly fire-fighting and causing issues for ourselves.

“It was an unbelievable effort from the lads to come back to 2-2 and at that point probably a draw was a fair result, if anything we were edging it. But then it is the individual decisions we are making that are costing us.

“We have spoken about the discipline and we have tried different things. We have driven the point home about certain things, such as how the captain is the only one who should speak to the referee, and to a point that has worked.

“We picked up just two yellows on Saturday – we had seven at Gainsborough – but it’s unfortunate that they went to the same player. Sean is really disappointed and has already apologised to the team.

“But you have to feel for the other players who are left out there on the pitch.

"Over the last two games we have played 115 out of 180 minutes with nine outfield players so when people say they look a bit tired it’s not surprising as we are constantly fire-fighting and trying to pull rabbits out of hats.

“We have made two early substitutions to try and get ourselves back into the game, which have worked, but then you’ve seen how the rest of the game unfolded.”
