WORCESTER City joint manager Matt Gardiner revealed there would be more new signings as the Aggborough side look to bring an end to their four-match losing run.

Defender Tom Sharpe and striker Nikolay Todorov made their debuts in Monday’s bank holiday clash with Hednesford Town but couldn’t stop City from slumping to a hefty 4-1 defeat.

“We have brought a couple of players in and there are more on the horizon,” Gardiner said.

“Some players have to improve and we have to strengthen in some areas.

“Nobody at Worcester City deserves that and certainly not at home. We kept going until the end but I feel sorry for the supporters. It was always a fortress for us at Aggborough.

“We are trying to change things as we go but we cannot keep giving goals away.

It is the first time when the performance as a team just wasn’t good enough.

In other games there have been bits you could pick out.

“Up front is an issue. I thought Nikolay was a little isolated but did OK and we are looking at other things to strengthen there are quickly as we can.”

The result means City head to Stockport County on Saturday on the back of four straight defeats.

And they will do so without a number of key players due to their indiscipline at the start of the campaign. Sean Geddes, Ashley Vincent and Clayton McDonald will all miss out.

Gardiner said: “Four sendings off in five games has hampered us – we go to Stockport next week with three suspended.

“We are a young squad and we are bringing in some experience. Tom Sharpe has come in from Brackley and that’s the strength that we need.

“It’s not a great start, four points out of seven games isn’t good enough. But it’s only seven games so it’s early enough to catch it. We know what needs to happen.

Gardiner added: “People have to take responsibility and that includes me and Carl. We all have to do better but we know what needs to be fixed and we’ll fix it."
