EVESHAM United manager Paul Collicutt is hoping former Aston Villa youngster Dan MacDonald will be the answer to his side’s goal-scoring woes.

The Robins are 10th in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West but have netted just nine goals in their nine league matches.

MacDonald, who has arrived from Monmouth Town and was on trial at Hereford FC in pre-season, came off the bench to salvage a point for Evesham with a late goal in a 1-1 draw at Didcot Town last Saturday.

Evesham host Wantage Town at the Jubilee Stadium tomorrow (3pm) and Collicutt is expecting another hard test.

“One thing we have strug - gled to do this season is to score goals,” said Collicutt.

“Our defence has been strong and we have only conceded five times in the league.

“Dan came off the bench at Didcot and put the ball in the back of the net. He was at Aston Villa from the age of eight to 21 years old and has an excellent pedigree.”

Collicutt added: “We played our best football of the sea - son at Didcot and hit the woodwork four times and their chairman told me in the bar afterwards that we had played them off the park.

“We ended Didcot’s play-off hopes last season and they were happy with a point but I was disappointed because I felt we should have won.”

Defender Matt Sysum (ankle) is facing a fitness battle, while Jared Wilson (ankle) has had a scan on his injury.

Hereford, who are second in the Midland League Premier Division, travel to struggling Boldmere St Michael’s.

Stourport Swifts are fourth and host Rocester at Walshes Meadow, while Westfields are at Quorn
