WORCESTER City face an FA Cup replay with minnows Holbeach United tomorrow night after Holbeach goalkeeper Ricky Drury scored a remarkable overhead kick in stoppage time to claim a 1-1 draw in this second qualifying round tie.

City had looked to be making solid, if unspectacular, progress against their United Counties League opponents as Lee Hughes headed his fourth goal for the club with 20 minutes to go.

But in a dramatic finish the hosts, who had had a goal disallowed five minutes from time, grabbed a sensational leveller in the fourth minute of added time.

Drury had been sent forward for a late free-kick, the long ball falling to the keeper who produced an acrobatic bicycle kick that flew into the net and sparked joyous celebrations among the Holbeach players and supporters.

A replay was no less than Holbeach deserved as Worcester struggled to assert their dominance for much of the contest, despite the three-division gap.

In a first-half of few chances, Connor Gater’s spinning volley was narrowly wide as Holbeach held their own, but offered little going forward.

The game opened up in the second-half as Hughes headed over before seeing another header brilliantly saved by Drury at point-blank range.

Jordan Thomas then had a great chance for the hosts after beating the offside trap but, through one-on-one with James Severn, the City keeper was quick off his line to smother the tame shot.

Two minutes later City made the breakthrough as Hughes got on the end of Sam Minihan’s deep cross at the far post to head in from inside the six yard box.

As the clock ticked down, Holbeach started to provide an aerial threat, centre-half Stacy Cartwright getting his head to a corner but was unable to get any power on his attempt.

With five minutes remaining the hosts had the ball in the net from a free-kick, only for Josh Ford’s powerful header to be ruled out for offside.

Gater steered a shot just wide as City almost sealed the win with a second on the break, substitute Tristan Dunkley also firing over late on.

The disallowed goal had given City their warning, with Severn fortunate to be awarded a free-kick from a similar delivery soon after.

But deep into added-time they gave away another free-kick in an almost identical position, from which Drury produced a moment that will live long in the memory.

In the crowd of bodies in the box, no-one picked up the keeper, who produced an overhead volley that any striker would be proud of.

It left Severn with no chance as it arrowed into the bottom corner and ensured the teams will meet again at Aggborough tomorrow night.
