CARL Heeley will be urging his players to forget all about the FA Cup and concentrate on bolstering their lowly league position when they head to Harrogate Town tomorrow (3pm).

City’s eye-catching draw with Sheffield United in the first round next weekend has propelled the Aggborough outfit back under the media spotlight 12 months after their cup heroics saw off Coventry City.

But all thoughts of another possible upset have been put on hold with joint manager Heeley calling for three points this weekend to help them climb away from the foot of the Vanarama National League North table.

He said: “As nice as it is to be in the FA Cup spotlight, we have to focus on our next game and that is against Harrogate.

“It’s human nature to have one eye on the following week but we have a good squad of players who know what’s at stake.

"We will pick people on how they train and who is playing well, so if their standards drop against Harrogate they could find themselves missing out the following week.

“A few of the players were shocked last year by the amount of media coverage surrounding our cup games. One year on, we have a bit of experience in such things so we know what to expect.

“It’s a bit disappointing and a bit of a surprise that we’ve been overlooked for television, especially after what we did last year, but these are decisions taken elsewhere and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

One player who will be keen to make a mark tomorrow is teenage keeper Ethan Ross, on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

The 18-year-old will be handed his chance with regular shot-stopper Nathan Vaughan suspended having picked up five bookings.

Heeley added: “Ethan will come in and will do a good job for us. He’s a young lad getting full-time coaching at a Premiership club so he’ll be fine.”

Striker Lee Hughes is still serving his four-match ban but midfielder Sean Geddes is available with his three-game suspension not starting until the FA Cup trip to Bramall Lane.

Tyler Weir’s foot injury looks like keeping him on the sidelines with Heeley hoping the defender will be able to return for the Sheffield United game.

“He’s had an X-ray, which shows nothing’s broken, but it’s important that we don’t bring him back too early and then risk losing him for even longer,” the joint City boss said.

Crewe Alexandra striker Andre Brown, 19, comes into the City squad after joining on loan for a month.

Harrogate currently lie fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Fylde, and are managed by former Kidderminster Harriers and Nuneaton Borough defender Simon Weaver, who has been in charge since 2009.
