SUBSTITUTES Wayne Thomas and Deon Burton were among the goals as Worcester City swept fellow strugglers AFC Telford United aside 3-0 at Aggborough.

And, for joint manager Carl Heeley, the strength of the squad could be vital as his side continues to climb the National League North table.

He said: “I know it’s an old cliche but you can tell the strength of your squad when you look at your bench and, at this level of football, they don’t get much better than ours when they’re all available.

“Losing Tom Sharpe and Tyler Weir to injury at half-time probably restricted our positive changes. It’s frustrating because they are good players.

“But we are bringing good players on. We were quite brave when we put Tris (Dunkley) on as we looked to get a threat out wide. We got ourselves a goal and I thought we were clinical – they were three good goals.

"Tommo (Thomas) has come on and headed everything – and when he heads it, it goes 40 yards. And then Deon Burton comes on and puts the gloss on a fine second-half performance.”

Heeley also said he had sympathy for Telford’s management team of Rob Smith and Larry Chambers.

He added: “I thought we were second-best possession wise in the first half and we had two or three players that were off it a little bit.

"But the key thing was that we kept a clean sheet and kept ourselves in it. We knew we could do better.

“I feel sorry for Rob and Chambo because it’s tough when you have a group of players who come out strong but once they conceded you could see they were deflated.

"That’s a confidence thing but you have to keep believing in your players and strengthen when you can.

“I think we saw a Worcester team with a little bit more confidence than Telford and maybe a little more belief at both ends of the pitch. It was a convincing scoreline and we kept a clean sheet.”
