WORCESTER City joint-boss Carl Heeley admitted he felt “mugged” after a late howler from goalkeeper Ethan Ross gifted Corby Town a dramatic 2-1 victory.

The Blue and Whites had all the momentum at Aggborough after Shaun Donnellan curled the ball home for an equaliser with less than five minutes to go.

However, Ross made a costly mistake when he spilled Kalern Thomas’ cross from the right into his own net in injury-time in the Vanarama National League North encounter.

“We finally got ourselves level with a great finish from Shaun and then in injury-time we concede a goal like that, which was a massive individual error,” Heeley said.

“They have knocked the ball into the corner to try to see time out. They then got a cross in which looked like a bread and butter save and it has ended up in the back of our net.

“So it feels cruel and we probably feel a little bit mugged.

“But that’s what is happening at the moment and it is another game we are going to look back on and think, 'How have we been beaten?’”

Heeley was also critical of the way City allowed Corby to open the scoring as Duane Courtney headed home just before the break.

But he still felt his side had enough opportunities to secure all three points at Aggborough.

“I thought we did very well in the second half as we created a number of opportunities,” he said.

“But we have got to be hitting the target. I can think of at least two or three great chances from 10 yards out.

“You can pass the ball as well as you like in the middle two thirds but it is about what you do in both penalty areas.

“It is about being ruthless and taking your chances and it is also about minimising individual errors and not conceding goals.

“We have not done that well enough and we have lost the game, which is disappointing.”
