JOINT-MANAGER Carl Heeley has labelled Worcester City’s 3-2 victory over 10-man AFC Fylde as their best result of the season.

With Worcester hovering just above the relegation zone, their fourth-placed opponents were expected to secure a comfortable three points at Kellamergh Park.

But City upset Fylde with a sixth minute strike from Amadou Bakayoko and a brace from Daniel Nti, including a first half penalty and a superb late winner.

“It was [the best result of the season],” said Heeley, whose side conceded eight goals in two matches to the Lancashire side last season.

“When we scored our first goal it felt like the first shot we had ever had on target against Fylde as we took a couple of heavy beatings against them last season.

“They’re a good side, they’ve got a lot of backing and they’re going to go places.

“But it just goes to show character and sheer will and desire to work hard for each other pays dividends.”

After letting slip their 2-0 lead, Fylde appeared to have all the momentum, but Heeley insisted he never doubted his side would be able to pull off the victory.

“Once they came back to 2-2, I think people would have looked and thought Fylde are going to go on and win this game,” he said.

“But we went again, we got on the ball, passed it and got into good situations and Dan Nti scored a great goal for us.

“I think it would have been an injustice if we had gone on to lose the game.

“I think just for the character alone and the response we have had we deserve our three points.”

He added: “It is great when you are walking up to 20 or 30 supporters, who have made the trip up and coped with atrocious conditions, so this result is also for them.”

City's squad included new signing Marius Ologu, 26, from West Midlands League Premier Division outfit Dudley Town.

Ologu’s previous club was Caransebes in the second tier of the Romanian league system.
