DANIEL Nti believes Worcester City’s superb win at high-flying AFC Fylde will spur on his team-mates as they bid to climb the Vanarama National League North table.

The 23-year-old coolly converted a first-half penalty before firing home the winner with eight minutes left to secure a 3-2 victory at Kellamergh Park and move City up two places to 16th.

Just one point from three winnable home games had left Worcester level on points with third-from-bottom Corby Town, who clinched a dramatic 2-1 win at Aggborough.

Nti admitted it had been a “tough week” leading up to the trip to Lancashire as skipper Ellis Deeney had also left the club for Tamworth.

But he insisted the victory over ten-man Fylde had given his side a big confidence boost ahead of hosting North Ferriby United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

“It was a great result,” Nti said. “A win like this can spur the team on massively, so I just hope we can kick on, better ourselves in the league and show our true potential.

“In football, you are going to get defeats and you are going to get wins, but it is about how you bounce back from the losses and I think we bounced back very well (after the home defeat to Corby on Saturday, January 16).

“It was a very good win at Fylde and I think the team will take a lot of spirit from that and we will push on.”

After going 2-0 up with a man advantage after Josh Langley was sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Jamie Smith, Worcester were in a strong position to run out comfortable winners.

But Nti, who has played more games than any other City player this season with 35 appearances so far this term, said he was not surprised to see Fylde claw their way back to 2-2 before he scored his late winner.

“Even when they got two back, we stuck together, persevered and got that final goal,” he said. “We knew they would come back as soon as they went down to ten men as teams tend to work harder but we just rode that.

“I am happy to get on the scoresheet and hopefully there will be many more to come as I want to go on a roll and help the team out.”

Nti said he was sad to lose midfielder Deeney, who was sold last week, but is confident they have the players to steer the Blue and Whites well clear of the dropzone.

“Ellis is great for any team, so Tamworth have got a very talented player,” he added.

“It is always going to be a loss to lose someone like Ellis, but I think the boys have dealt with it well as Danny Jackman has come in as skipper and everyone respects him.

“We have got a good bunch of lads here, so we just need to continue to press teams, play good football and the results will come.”
